- Police reaction: We had to search through about 100 potential suspects near the address, you are very lucky
- Time it took for first report to arrive: ~4 months
- Once received, time it took for police to recover it: 3 days, but it took 10 months total to get it back
- Final thoughts: Relieved and surprised. Never thought I’d see my laptop again

Lost+Found: Case B3K7 – Berkeley, USA

- Location: Berkeley, CA.
- Date Stolen: August 31, 2012.
- Date Recovered: September 20, 2012.
- Theft: Apartment Robbery.
- Missing items: Macbook, Roommate’s Macbook + DSLR.
- Police reaction: This is common, we can’t do much.
- Time it took for first report to arrive: 4 days – Received first and only report 12:40pm Tuesday 21th.
- Once received, time it took for police to recover it: A few days.
- Final thoughts: Grateful. Lucky. Fortunate.

Lost+Found: Case V4D1 – Frigate Bay, St. Kitts

- Location: Frigate Bay, St. Kitts
- Date Stolen: August 17, 2012
- Date Recovered: August 21, 2012
- Theft: House broken into
- Missing items: Macbook Pro, Lenovo notebook, iPod Shuffle, two Lumix cameras, $500 cash, Kindle
- Police reaction: The initial detective wasn’t sure what Prey’s reports had to offer, but once more technical Inspectors and police got involved they knew they had a rare chance to actually catch the user, whether he be the actual thief or the recipient of stolen goods.
- Time it took for first report to arrive: 4 days – Received first and only report 12:40pm Tuesday 21th
- Once received, time it took for police to recover it: 5 hours. Police were scouring the area immediately and we got word two suspects were in custody by 5:30pm Tuesday
- Final thoughts: Kind of felt like I was the Inspector Gadget for a while. Seeing the photo of someone using your stuff is unnerving!
Tip: Don’t lock down your computer right away. If your first report shows that the user is accessible, allow the software to keep giving your updates. We were lucky that the screenshot I received contained so much information, because my locking the computer kept the user from staying and getting back online!

- Missing items: MacBook Air 13′ + New iPad 64GB
- Police reaction: The police would be still looking at the surveillance cameras if I wouldn’t have installed Prey on my MacBook.
- Time it took for first report to arrive: 24 hours
- Once received, time it took for police to recover it: A few minutes. After I call them that I have photos of the burglar they came in minutes to help me get back the devices.
- Final thoughts: I am very happy.

- Once received, time it took for police to recover it: Within 3 hours
- Final thoughts: I recovered my girlfriends laptop that ended up in Belgium. So I’m very relieved and thankful

- Police reaction: How are you tracking the computer are you using a key-logger?
- Time it took for first report to arrive: 30 minutes
- Once received, time it took for police to recover it: Immediately
- Final thoughts: I was stoked that I had installed prey on my laptop otherwise I would have never recovered it. Prey is an Awesome piece of software

Lost+Found: Case 59VM – International! From USA to the UK

This is an international recovery case. The owner of the stolen laptop got it back from the US to the UK – Yeah, Prey can do that!
- Location: San Francisco Airport
- Date Stolen: May 3rd, 2012
- Date Recovered: July 18th, 2012
- Theft: Stolen from San Francisco’s BART
- Missing items: Laptop, phones, passport, wallet. Tomtom, money.
- Police reaction: Jurisdictional issues meant that was bounced between police forces before a detective took ownership.
- Time it took for first report to arrive: 5 weeks.
- Once received, time it took for police to recover it: 5 weeks
- Final thoughts: US police system is a nightmare, if crime and goods are in different jurisdictions. I was saved by the good will of the detective, it could have gone the other way. The thief was a chef at the airport who was known to the police. Police obtained search warrant and did the biz.
