Got one laptop robbed after a break in to our premises… awww! Then I remembered that I have a remote control host running on the laptop — After two days it indeed did pop online, and I saw it from the remote control app! I opened the connection, just didn’t control anything, I was only monitoring the guy’s actions. Unfortunately he only listened to music, nothing more. In one point I guess he left the machine, no movements for long time. I searched quickly the Internet for a suitable program… and found Prey! Quick install, disconnected remote desktop, mark this laptop as stolen… and wait. After approximately 30 minutes, first report arrived! Yihaa!
This laptop had GPS chip inside, location was set on the map, and also screenshots. In the next report I got the guy’s webcam shot, and screenshot of his name on one application running on the screen. GREAT! Busted! I sent all the pictures and other information to the cops, and in a few hours this guy was placed under arrest. Also, same time, cops found so much of other stolen items. Nice!
We got our laptop back, and it wasn’t the cheapest one! Huh! Time to install Prey for all of our PC’s… and buy a subscription also, this software is worth of supporting.
