Our User’s Story: Tracking a Dell laptop

A Dell laptop was stolen out of a co-workers car. Once notified of the incident, a few days later, the action was taken to retrieve any information as possible. Prey was not installed until after the laptop was online. Silent installation through 3rd party software gave me additional information via Prey.

One particular screenshot gave us an order number to which we traced the order back from a popular store to which, even with guest access, gave us the suspects name, address, and phone. The laptop was retrieved a few days later after reporting the information to the police.

Final thoughts: Thankful the suspect was not tech savvy and relieved by the luck in the situation.

When things like this happen, better be ready.
